Why prices vary so much
- ·US cash prescription prices are not regulated, so each pharmacy sets its own markup.
- ·Discount programs (for example the Walmart $4 generic list, Costco member pricing, or a GoodRx coupon) widen the spread further.
- ·The same generic can cost a few dollars at one pharmacy and far more at another for an identical fill.
- ·Quantity, dose, and where you live all change the number you actually pay.
Prices vary by pharmacy, location, quantity, and eligibility, and they change over time.

Frequently asked questions
How do you compare prescription prices?+
For each medication we run source adapters where pharmacies and discount networks publish public pricing, then show the results side by side. Every quote records the source and the time it was fetched so you can verify it before you fill.
Is comparing prices free?+
Yes. Searching and comparing prices is free and does not require insurance or an account. BetterBuyRx is funded by voluntary donations, not by pharmacies paying for placement.
Will the price I see be exactly what I pay?+
Not always. We show the most recently verified price and the date it was fetched, but pharmacies change prices and add local taxes. Prices vary by pharmacy, location, quantity, and eligibility. Always confirm the final price at the pharmacy counter.
Do I need insurance to compare prices?+
No. The prices we compare are cash and discount-program prices, which anyone can use. If you have coverage such as VA, TRICARE, Kaiser, or a Medicare Part D insulin cap, your plan may be cheaper than any cash price shown here, so it is worth comparing both.
How are the results ordered?+
Results are ranked by price. No pharmacy pays to rank higher, and wholesale benchmark figures such as NADAC are shown only as a reference and never as a price you can buy at.
